On January 14, Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) announced it would become the first construction company in South Korea to commercialize autonomous robot delivery services.
Hyundai E&C plans to first implement the indoor-outdoor integrated autonomous robot delivery service, developed in collaboration with the Hyundai Motor Group's startup 'Mobinn,' at the Gangnam-gu 'The Hill Daechi Edelweiss' complex, scheduled for completion in June.
This autonomous robot delivery service is equipped with advanced technology to navigate all sections autonomously, such as roads, underground parking lots, shared entryways, elevators, and apartment entrances, and it integrates with wireless communication and control systems. Notably, it features the ability to call and board elevators unmanned, offering more convenience.
After completing a test operation of this service at the 'Hillstate Laphiano Samsong' complex last year, Hyundai E&C has been expediting its commercialization with the addition of intelligent functions through collaboration with Hyundai Elevator earlier this year.
With this technical upgrade, the robots have acquired AI-based capabilities to call and recall elevators, assess overload situations, and overcome obstacles independently. Furthermore, they can move stably over complex terrains like stairs thanks to special rubber wheels and a level-maintenance function for load safety. They also recognize the surrounding environment via 3D LiDAR and cameras, supporting a patrol mode for pedestrian safety.
Hyundai E&C plans to apply this technology to the redevelopment project of Hannam 4 District in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to build smart living environments.
"The autonomous robot delivery service will contribute to improving quality of life beyond mere convenience for our customers," said an official from Hyundai E&C. "We will continue to advance future-oriented residential technologies and services to lead a differentiated housing culture."
